What is Open Play or Day Care for Dogs?

Dog daycare is an environment where dogs are provided ongoing care throughout the day including walks*, open play, grooming*, feeding*, naps, and love. *By request and may cost additional.

Open play is when dogs socialize in larger groups overseen by a trained and experienced dog handler. Many dogs love the interaction, nonstop play, and constant care and attention from the staff.

We recommend coming in for a Tour & Assessment to see if the daycare environment and open play is right for your dog. Click below to choose a date and time that works for you.

Member Requirements
AGE
Dogs must be at least 4 months old and have received their final round of adult vaccinations. Puppies are more susceptible to contracting illnesses and parasites, so it is important for the safety and health of your dog that they meet our age and vaccination requirements.
VACCINATIONS
Dogs must show proof of immunization for DHPP (distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus and parainfluenza), Lepto, Bordetella (kennel cough virus), Canine Flu and Rabies. Vaccinations should be given at least 72 hours prior to the assessment for full inoculation. Dogs are also required to be on an effective flea and tick treatment such as Frontline, Comfortis, etc.
SPAY OR NEUTER
Dogs must be spayed or neutered by 6 months old. In an open play environment, unaltered male and female dogs elicit competition from other males that either wish to determine rank or to gain the attention of the intact female. If your veterinarian has recommended to spay or neuter at a later time for health benefits, we recommend at-home walks until your dog meets our requirements. We also do not accept dogs that have received a vasectomy in lieu of a neuter as the sex hormones are still active.
SOCIABILITY & TEMPERAMENT
Dogs should be friendly towards both humans and other dogs. All dogs are required to undergo an assessment at Fitdog to determine sociability and temperament. Dogs may be dismissed after the assessment if we notice changes in behavior that are unsafe for other dogs or staff. We do not discriminate by breed. We believe all dogs should have a chance at happiness.
What To Expect At The Tour & Assessment

The tour & assessment is an opportunity to get to know each other. When you arrive, you will be greeted by one of our friendly Club Coordinators who will meet your dog, review your vaccination records and account details, and provide you a tour of the daycare facility.

After the tour, we bring your dog to our play area to introduce them to the pack. We require that your dog stays for a minimum of two hours for observation. But for you, the process takes around 20 minutes.

The assessment fee is $20. Dogs can spend the rest of the day at daycare for no additional charge.
